KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament for Southeast St Mary, Dr Norman Dunn is encouraging calm among residents of the St Mary communities which were placed under a 14 day quarantine this morning in an effort to contain the further spread of COVID-19 in the parish.

The communities of Annotto Bay, Dover, Epsom and Enfield were placed under quarantine effective today, May 7 at 6:00 am until Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 am.

“I know this might cause some level of anxiety and fears but I am encouraging all persons to remain calm, especially those in the quarantined areas, stay at home and continue to follow all Ministry of Health and Wellness guidelines and instructions from the security forces,” Dunn said in a press release.

“I assure you that we will get through this challenge like we always do —by working together. My team and I will be on the ground ensuring that your rights are protected and preserved.

“Remember to be vigilant in protecting yourself and your family from contracting the COVID-19. Stay six feet apart, use a hand sanitizer that contains 70 per cent alcohol if you are unable to wash your hands with soap and water. Most importantly, wear a mask whenever you are in public spaces.

“In the coming days, my office in conjunction with other Government ministries and agencies and private sector partners will be in the community to best address your fears, anxieties and the economic challenges you may face during this period,” Dunn said.
